Many of the main shapes used in the film are circular and curved shapes to convey softness to the character Lapsus. Whereas the rectangular shapes are used to convey background and contrasts between then white and black colors. Based on the animation, Lapsus appears to be a helpless yet curious character, as it shows her curiosity in wanting to transition into the dark background, which as she leaves that dark exterior her body and shape changes, which happens to be beyond her own control.

I agree about the softness of Lapsus' main character! They are definitely supposed to be conveyed as 'soft', and approachable (especially being a nun of some variety), and the roundness of their character silhouette really does show that.
I agreed with her curiosity, after she got into her "normal self" she still went back to the darkness and ended up getting crushed.
